Jannik Sinner and Rafael Jodar both earned wins on Tuesday to set a quarter-final meeting at the Mutua Madrid Open, while Casper Ruud earned a dramatic victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas, saving two match points.

Sinner extended his winning streak at ATP Masters 1000 events to 25 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Cameron Norrie. The Italian is aiming to become the first player to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles, having triumphed in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo.

Jodar earned his 12th win in 13 matches with a comfortable triumph against Czech Vit Kopriva. The 19-year-old Spaniard is just the third Spanish teenager in history to reach the quarter-finals in Madrid, joining Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. Into the quarter-finals at this level for the first time, Jodar next meets Sinner.

Ruud was on the brink of defeat when he was two match points down against Stefanos Tsitsipas. However, he fended off the danger to survive…

Ruud then powered to a third-set tie-break win against the former Nitto ATP Finals champion. Ruud is the defending titlist in the Spanish capital and will be eager to add his 10 clay-court tour-level trophies.

In other action, Flavio Cobolli advanced to the last eight by outlasting seventh seed Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. The Italian will next face Alexander Zverev or Flavio Cobolli.

There is no stopping Arthur Fils right now. The champion in Barcelona earlier this month, the Frenchman advanced to the quarter-finals in Madrid with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph against Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Fils’ next opponent will be Jiri Lehecka. The Czech overcame last year’s Madrid semi-finalist Lorenzo Musetti to continue his good season. Lehecka advanced to the final in Miami in March and is now just two wins from matching that feat in the Spanish capital.

Alexander Blockx advanced to the last eight at a Masters 1000 event for the first time with a big win against Francisco Cerundolo. The 21-year-old is the youngest Belgian quarter-finalist in series history. Watch how he saved a first set point in style against the Argentine.
