Sharon Lokedi defends her title at 2026 Boston Marathon

Sharon Lokedi told the media a story about forgetting her watch, not realizing it until she was on the way to the Marathon. Sharon told her coach, and her coach asked Stephen Pifer if Sharon could borrow his watch. Sharon made Stephen world famous by announcing his name and thanking him on Instagram.

BOSTON (USA, Apr 20): Kenya’s Sharon Lokedi retained her title in the women’s race in the 130th Boston Marathon (WA Platinum Label). Lokedi won in 2:18:51 with a big negative split (71:03/67:48), covering the five kilometre split between 35-40km in an incredible 14:48 and the last 7.2km in 21:49. Lokedi led a Kenyan 1-2-3-4 from Loice Chemnung (2:19:35), Mary Ngugi-Cooper (2:20:07) and Mercy Chelangat (2:20:30). Jess McClain was the leading US finisher in fifth in 2:20:49, the fastest time ever set by a US athlete in the Boston Marathon. 2024 US Olympic Marathon Trials winner Fiona O’Keeffe withdrew late from the Boston Marathon due to injury.
