The high-stakes atmosphere of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was electric on Monday, as the Mumbai Indians (MI) squared off against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 30th match of the IPL 2026 season. While the encounter promised a battle of the heavyweights, it turned into a masterclass of dominance by the five-time champions. On a night where records tumbled and momentum shifted, the narrative was driven by a vintage bowling performance and a spectacular century that left the home crowd stunned.
Jasprit Bumrah breaks his dry spell by removing Sai Sudharsan for a golden duck
The primary talking point heading into this clash was the uncharacteristic “lean patch” of India’s premier speedster, Jasprit Bumrah. Having gone wicket-less in his recent outings, the pressure was mounting on the pace spearhead to deliver. It took exactly one delivery to silence the sceptics.
Defending a massive total, Bumrah steamed in for the very first ball of the innings. He produced a trademark delivery, full, angled across the left-handed Sai Sudharsan, and laced with just enough late swing. Sudharsan, tempted by the width, flashed at a drive only to see the ball take a thick outside edge. Krish Bhagat, stationed at point, made no mistake with the catch.
The ‘drought’ was officially over. The golden-duck dismissal of Sudharsan not only gave MI the perfect start but also re-established Bumrah’s psychological edge over IPL top orders. His opening spell (3-0-15-1) set the tone for a disciplined bowling effort that never allowed the Titans to breathe.

MI thrash GT with a massive 99-run victory following Tilak Varma’s fireworks
While Bumrah provided the early spark, the foundation of the victory was laid by a breathtaking unbeaten century from Tilak Varma. Coming in when MI was reeling at 44/3, Varma played an innings for the ages, smashing 101 off just 45 balls. His knock, decorated with 8 fours and 7 towering sixes, propelled Mumbai to a formidable 199/5. Despite Kagiso Rabada’s valiant effort with the ball (3/33), the Titans’ bowlers were largely dismantled in the death overs.
The chase for Gujarat Titans never truly got off the ground. After Sudharsan’s first-ball exit, captain Shubman Gill (14) and Jos Buttler (5) fell cheaply, leaving the middle order with a mountain too steep to climb. Ashwani Kumar emerged as the unlikely hero with the ball for Mumbai, ripping through the lower order to finish with stellar figures of 4/24.
The Titans were bundled out for exactly 100, handing MI a massive 99-run victory. This win significantly boosts MI’s Net Run Rate, moving them up the table, while Gujarat will need to go back to the drawing board to address a batting lineup that collapsed under the clinical precision of the Mumbai attack. Varma was rightfully named Player of the Match for his match-defining ton.
