The Blade Putters You Can Trust (Or Can’t) On Short Putts

Across 24 blade putters and more than 15,000 putts in our 2026 testing, the spread between the best and worst performers from close range was nearlyeight strokes. Three putters cost golfers strokes on short putts rather than saving them while the Mizuno M.Craft Osaka posted a PuttView Short score of −6.5. That’s good enough to beat 27 of the 29 mallets we tested. If you’re playing a blade and short putts are costing you, here’s what the data says about which models you can trust inside 10 feet.

Blade putters that excel at short putts

The table below shows PuttView scores at every distance so you can see the full picture. A few things worth flagging: the COBRA 3DP Tour Grandsport and Odyssey Ai-Dual DW are strong at short putts but show a positive medium putt number, meaning they give back some of those gains from further out. The Mizuno and PING Anser 4 are the most well-rounded of the group with the Scotty Cameron SS Newport 2 as a good alternative.

The Mizuno M.Craft Osaka didn’t just lead our blade test in PuttView Short score. It also had the highest short putt make rate of any blade we tested at 90.0 percent.

The blade putters that struggle on short putts

Three blade putters in our test posted positive PuttView Short scores, meaning they cost golfers strokes on short putts rather than saving them. The Makefield Proto (+1.1), Edel The Brick (+0.6) and Sausage Golf Design No.2 (+0.3) all fell on the wrong side of zero.

It’s worth noting that all three are niche brands. The Bettinardi BB-8W and LA GOLF Bel Air II are essentially neutral at short putts, doing very little to help or hurt you from close range although both are strong at long putts.
