Arneodo/Vacherot stun top seeds Granollers/Zeballos in Madrid

Seeded parings Arevalo/Pavic & Heliovaara/Patten also advance on Sunday

Romain Arneodo and Valentin Vacherot didn’t wait long to spring a big upset Sunday at the Mutua Madrid Open, where they opened doubles action at the ATP Masters 1000 event by stunning top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.

The Monegasque duo rallied for a 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 victory after 72 minutes in the first round of the clay-court event. Third seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten also advanced on Sunday, when they navigated the test posed by singles stars Alejandro Tabilo and Learner Tien for a 7-5, 7-5 win.

Heliovaara and Patten are second in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, aiming to return to the Nitto ATP Finals, where they triumphed in 2025.
