There is no stopping Rafael Jodar right now!

The 19-year-old Spaniard earned another memorable win on Friday at the Mutua Madrid Open, where he defeated World No. 8 Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-1 to clinch his maiden Top 10 win.

The #NextGenATP star delighted the home crowd during the evening sunset in the Spanish capital, taking large cuts at the ball off both wings to hit through De Minaur, who had no answers for Jodar’s power and pinpoint accuracy. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner was watching courtside and looked impressed by what he saw.

Wild card Jodar raised his arms aloft following his 75-minute second-round victory and will next play 19-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca in a battle between the two youngest players inside the Top 100. By beating De Minaur, Jodar joined Fonseca as just the second man born in 2006 or later to record a Top 10 win.

Just 12 months ago, Jodar was outside the Top 600 but has risen at a rapid rate. Earlier in April, the 19-year-old captured his maiden ATP Tour title in Marrakech before he soared to the semi-finals at the ATP 500 event in Barcelona. In March, he reached the third round in Miami and has matched that feat in Madrid.

Fonseca advanced to the third round after Marin Cilic was forced to withdraw ahead of their clash due to food poisoning. Fonseca enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals at an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time in Monte-Carlo.
