Jess Fishlock awaits injury news after being taken off on stretcher for Seattle Reign

Jess Fishlock is awaiting a medical verdict for an injury that led to her being carried off on a stretcher for Seattle Reign.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Initial X-rays on Jess’ ankle were negative, and she is currently undergoing further evaluation and testing.

“We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”

Pictures of the star former Wales midfielder, 39, showed her in pain and gesturing for help before leaving the field in Reign’s 3-0 Sunday home NWSL defeat by Utah Royals.

In the immediate aftermath of the game, Reign head coach Laura Harvey said: “I don’t think it looked great.”

Harvey said Fishlock’s exit had a negative impact on her side’s efforts.

“When the injury happened, we were really on the front foot and we were really pushing. It sucked the life out of us a little bit… she is a big part of the group obviously for who she is and what she’s done and the leadership role that she plays within our group.”

Reign recently announced Fishlock would retire at the end of their current campaign, which will end in November.

Fishlock stepped down from international football with Wales in October 2025.

She worked as a technical assistant to boss Rhian Wilkinson for Wales’ opening Women’s World Cup qualifier in March, but has since been focusing exclusively on playing for Reign.
