The ATP Tour continued to expand its off-court offering with the launch of the inaugural Madrid ATP Golf Tournament, bringing together players, alumni and coaches.
Held on Tuesday at LaFinca Golf Club, the event featured around 20 participants and a format that combined friendly play with a competitive edge. It marked the first European edition of an initiative that has been successful in Indian Wells.
Players including Pablo Carreno Busta, Cameron Norrie and Brandon Nakashima took part. They were joined by familiar faces from across the ATP network such as Lucas Pouille, Xavier Pujo, Francisco Clavet and Jose Clavet, Rogerio Dutra Silva, George Bastl, Horacio Rearte, Raymond Sarmiento and Adrian Menendez-Maceiras.
British lefty Norrie will play Tomas Machac in opening round in Madrid and enjoyed spending time away from the court in the lead up.
“It is so nice,” Norrie said. “Especially with these longer events, to have a day off and play golf makes it really nice. I think it is the first time the ATP has done something like this. I am happy to be a part of it and it has been a good day so far.”

Nakashima opens against Alexander Blockx in the Spanish capital. The American was another who loved the opportunity to compete on the golf course.
“It is beautiful here,” Nakashima said. “It is the first time I am playing golf outside of the US. It is a beautiful course and beautiful weather in Madrid. It is always nice to get away from the courts a little bit and do something different. It is very relaxing out here… to relax the mind a little bit.”

The tournament is part of a wider effort to build out off-court activities on the ATP Tour, offering players additional ways to engage during the season while improving connections across the community.
