WATCH: Naman Dhir pulls off a stunner to dismiss Washington Sundar in GT vs MI IPL 2026 clash

Mumbai Indians (MI) produced a complete all-round performance to register a commanding 99-run victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2026 encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium. After a disappointing start to the season that saw them lose four consecutive matches, MI seem to have finally found momentum, clinching their second win and moving up from the bottom of the points table in style.

Naman Dhir takes a splendid catch to remove Washington Sundar

The defining moment of the match came not with the bat, but in the field, courtesy of young Naman Dhir. During the eighth over of GT’s chase, Washington Sundar looked set to counterattack after getting his eye in. Facing Mitchell Santner, Sundar unleashed a powerful pull shot that appeared destined to clear the boundary ropes.

However, stationed near the fence, Dhir showcased extraordinary awareness and athleticism. Timing his leap to perfection, he plucked the ball out of the air with both hands while maintaining exceptional balance. What made the effort even more remarkable was his body control—ensuring his feet stayed just inside the boundary cushions as he completed the catch.

The stunning effort brought an end to Sundar’s innings at 26 and left GT struggling at 54/4. The dismissal proved to be a turning point, effectively halting any hopes of a comeback and shifting the momentum firmly in MI’s favour.

Tilak Varma’s century powers MI to brilliant win

Earlier in the evening, MI’s innings was headlined by a sensational knock from Tilak Varma, who registered his maiden IPL century under pressure. Walking in at number five with the team reeling at 44/3, Tilak initially took time to settle, managing just 19 runs off his first 22 deliveries.

A crucial intervention came during the strategic timeout when skipper Hardik Pandya had a word with the young batter. That conversation appeared to ignite a dramatic turnaround. Tilak switched gears in breathtaking fashion, smashing 82 runs off his next 23 balls to finish unbeaten on 101 off just 45 deliveries.

His innings, laced with 8 fours and 7 sixes, not only rescued MI from a precarious position but also matched Sanath Jayasuriya’s record for the fastest century by a Mumbai Indians batter in IPL history. Dhir also played a valuable supporting role with a well-compiled 45, helping MI post a formidable total of 199/5.

Defending a strong total, MI’s bowling unit delivered with precision and discipline. The Gujarat Titans never found any rhythm in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals under mounting pressure. Ashwani Kumar emerged as the standout performer with the ball, claiming a brilliant four-wicket haul that dismantled the GT batting lineup. The hosts were eventually bowled out for exactly 100—one run short of Tilak’s individual score—highlighting the sheer dominance of MI across all departments.
