Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will battle for a double prize on Sunday afternoon at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
The great Lexus ATP Head2Head rivals will each step on to Court Rainier III knowing that whoever triumphs at the clay ATP Masters 1000 event will also secure No. 1 in Monday’s edition of the PIF ATP Rankings.
Incumbent No. 1 Alcaraz, who is the defending champion in Monte-Carlo, has occupied top spot for all but one week since he defeated Sinner to win the US Open last September. Sinner returned to No. 1 for that lone week ahead of the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals in mid-November, but Alcaraz has since caught up with the Italian for overall weeks spent at No. 1: The Spaniard will on Sunday join Sinner in completing a 66th week as the world’s best player.

Should Alcaraz triumph on Sunday and be the one to subsequently begin his 67th week as World No. 1, the Spaniard would do so with a 590-point lead from Sinner in the PIF ATP Rankings. Yet he would still not feel secure in his position, given he has to defend a further 3,300 points across the European clay swing, starting next week at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell where he reached the final in 2025.
“To be honest, I’m going to lose No. 1 in the world [at some point],” Alcaraz said before his first match this week in Monte-Carlo. “I don’t know if it is going to be at this tournament or in the next one. I’m defending a bunch of points that are going to be really difficult to defend. Even if I defend them, Jannik is going to add some points at these tournaments where he doesn’t have to defend any points.”
In stark contrast to Alcaraz, Sinner has just 1,950 points to defend on the clay beyond Monte-Carlo and none until the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome in mid-May. Therefore, if the Italian can reclaim top spot at the earliest possible opportunity by downing Alcaraz on Sunday to win his maiden Monte-Carlo crown, he may prove a hard man to dislodge (even if his initial lead from the Spaniard would be just 110 points).
Alcaraz/Sinner points after Monte-Carlo final
| Result | Alcaraz | Sinner |
| Alcaraz wins | 13,590 | 13,000 |
| Sinner wins | 13,240 | 13,350 |
Regardless of who triumphs at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, Alcaraz and Sinner’s monopoly at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings appears secure. Between them, the two players have occupied top spot since Novak Djokovic completed a record-extending 428th week as No. 1 on 9 June 2024. At the ages of just 22 and 24, respectively, Alcaraz and Sinner have established themselves as an immovable joint force approaching a two-year stint at the top of the game.
