TORUN (POL): The 21st edition of World Indoors will be held for the second time in Poland, following Sopot 2014. It is also the second latest date ever after Nanjing 2025 (Mar 21-23).  Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena Toruń (hosted the 2021 European Indoors) will host the only world track championships of 2026 for seniors (along with new Ultimate Championships in September). Ticket sales are going well, and the title Kujawy-Pomorze 26 displays big regional support. In the entries, 674 athletes from 118 countries are represented, which is at the level of previous championships, and the number of countries is slightly lower. The final numbers for Nanjing 2025 were 517 athletes from 118 countries. Record numbers are 705 athletes at the World Indoors 1997 in Paris (but without direct finals in the technical events) and 171 countries at the World Indoors 2012 in Istanbul. There will be 12 title defenders, meaning 12 events in the middle. Also, 9 Olympic winners from Paris 2024 and 11 World champions from Tokyo 2025. Not invited,d as in Belgrade and Glasgow, Russian and Belarusian athletes.

All technical events are held as finals. Qualification was not based on rankings, but on current lists (except for combined events). The hall’s capacity is 6000. New Mondo track was installed before this season, and there’s usual good prize money, too, for places 1-6: $40 000-20 000-10 000-8000-6000-4000, plus a $50,000 bonus for a world record. A new event,s the mixed 4×4 relay, has been added to the 27 events. The new system is used in 400 m competitions. In these competitions, only 4 lanes are used: 4 semifinals and 2 finals. Breakpoint 4e 800m breakpoint4 lanes have been changed to include men’s events, men’s World Records, to be usual in men’s pole vault, relays (including new 4×4 mix with 3:1 stand pentathlon, some in men’s 400), women’s 60 m hurdles.
