Pat Cummins gets green light for IPL 2026 return to Sunrisers Hyderabad; set to play on THIS day

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are set to receive a massive reinforcement as their regular captain, Pat Cummins, has been officially cleared to rejoin the squad. Following a successful medical evaluation under the supervision of Cricket Australia (CA) in Sydney, the premier fast bowler has received the green light to resume full bowling duties without any further restrictions. This news comes as a significant relief for the “Orange Army,” which has navigated the first half of the tournament under the leadership of stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan.

The road to recovery for Pat Cuumins

Cummins had been sidelined due to a lingering lumbar stress injury that has severely limited his playing time since July 2025. After briefly joining the team in India earlier this month, he returned to Australia for a final, critical scan overseen by CA medical staff on Wednesday. The results confirmed that the injury has fully resolved, paving the way for his return to the subcontinent.

When will Cummins play for SRH?

Fans eager to see Cummins back in action will have to wait just a little longer for his match-day debut this season. While he lands in India tomorrow, he will undergo a short period of conditioning and match-readiness training before stepping onto the field.

  • Arrival in India: Friday, 17 April 2026.
  • Matches ruled out: Cummins will not feature in the high-stakes clash against Chennai Super Kings (18 April) or the following game against Delhi Capitals (21 April).
  • Targeted comeback match: The Australian spearhead has set his sights on the Rajasthan Royals match on 25 April in Jaipur for his official return to the playing XI.

Impact on SRH’s campaign

Currently placed fourth on the points table with two wins from five matches, SRH has maintained a competitive position thanks to strong performances from domestic talents like Praful Hinge and overseas pacers Eshan Malinga and David Payne. However, Cummins’ return is expected to solidify the bowling attack and provide veteran leadership as the tournament enters its critical second half.

Upon his return to full match fitness, Cummins is expected to resume his role as the primary captain. His goal remains clear: to lead the Sunrisers through the “back half” of the season and into the playoffs.
