The Kickr Headwind was originally launched in 2018 as the first smart fan designed for indoor training. It uses a targeted airflow pattern that matches the user’s body position.

At Wahoo, we’re focused on making every workout better for our users,” said Gareth Joyce, CEO of Wahoo. “This firmware update is available to all Kickr Headwind owners globally, keeping the product fresh and smart, with features that adapt to pace, power, and physiology. We’re committed to creating tools that last, evolve, and continue to add real value to every workout.”

The update brings broader sensor compatibility, which allows the fan to work with more Bluetooth sensors. This includes the Kickr Run treadmill, footpod sensors, power meters, and CORE body temperature sensors.

Called Adaptive Cooling, it uses data from multiple connected sensors (up to 5) to adjust airflow based on the user’s effort level. For example, it can combine heart rate and power data or power and body temperature readings to provide more precise cooling during high-intensity intervals and recovery periods.

For users with Wahoo’s Kickr Run treadmill, the integration creates a more connected experience. Since the treadmill’s RunFree Mode already adjusts belt speed automatically without requiring speed changes on a display, the fan now matches its airflow to the runner’s pace automatically. The pairing process has also been simplified through the Wahoo App, which helps users select and manage their connected sensors more easily.
