Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz captured their second ATP Masters 1000 title as a team on Sunday at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, where they fought back to defeat Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.
The Germans prevailed in a Match Tie-break in the semi-finals against Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin and delivered again in the key moments in the final, with Krawietz striking a return winner on match point.
“We broke twice in the second set, so we found some solutions there,” Krawietz said in his on-court interview. “The first set we felt comfortable but doubles is so quick and can change in such a quick time. Luckily we came through and won in the end.”
Krawietz and Puetz are the first all-German team to triumph in the Principality since Boris Becker and Michael Stich in 1992.
“This is a great week and a great start to the clay-court season for us, which in the past we haven’t done as well as we would have liked,” Puetz said. “This is a great tournament and has been a great week for us.”
A crucial moment in the match came at 2-3 in the second set, when the Germans immediately responded to losing serve by breaking the fifth seeds serve. Krawietz and Puetz rode momentum to an 84-minute victory and celebrated with their team courtside after. They now lead Arevalo and Pavic 6-2 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
Kraiwetz and Puetz have won six trophies together, highlighted by their Nitto ATP Finals run in 2024 and victory at the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai in 2025.
Arevalo and Pavic were competing together in the Monte-Carlo final for the first time. The fifth seeds have enjoyed success on clay in the past, winning Roland Garros as a team in 2024 and triumphing at the Masters 1000 event in Rome in 2025.
