The Audi Revolut F1 Team has announced a significant change in its leadership structure, confirming that Jonathan Wheatley has left the organization with immediate effect due to personal reasons. The decision marks the end of Wheatley’s tenure just under a year after he joined the Audi F1 Project in April 2025.
Wheatley played a central role in building up the new Formula 1 operation at the team’s Hinwil base in Switzerland. Working alongside Mattia Binotto, he helped shape the structure and performance direction of the team that made an impressive debut by scoring points in early March.
Audi confirmed that Mattia Binotto will now assume the responsibilities of Team Principal, in addition to his existing role as Head of the Audi F1 Project. This consolidation places Binotto at the helm both at the factory and at the race track as the team continues its push toward becoming a competitive force in Formula 1.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner expressed gratitude for Wheatley’s contributions during the team’s formative phase.
“We are grateful to Jonathan Wheatley for his contribution to the project during the crucial entry phase and wish him all the best for the future,” Döllner said.
He also reaffirmed Audi’s long-term ambitions and confidence in the leadership transition.
“Mattia Binotto and the team will continue to pursue the path we have chosen with determination. Our focus remains unchanged: we are concentrating all our efforts on building a team competing at the highest level that will challenge for world championships in Formula 1 by 2030. We will continuously develop our organizational structures to achieve our shared goal in a sustainable manner.”
The move places even greater responsibility on Binotto, who now oversees both the strategic development of Audi’s F1 program and the operational leadership of the race team. Given his extensive experience in Formula 1 management and engineering, Audi appears confident that Binotto can guide the project through its next critical stages.
