Jannik Sinner will return to World No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday following his victory at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
Just more than a month ago, entering Indian Wells, Carlos Alcaraz led Sinner by 3,150 points. But the Italian has quickly flipped their battle with titles in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo. The 24-year-old will now have 13,350 points to Alcaraz’s 13,240.
The last time Sinner held World No. 1 was for a week starting last 3 November. The San Candido native had taken it after winning the Rolex Paris Masters, but relinquished the position at the start of the Nitto ATP Finals.
Alcaraz entered Monte-Carlo as World No. 1, sitting atop the PIF ATP Rankings for the 66th week. Sinner fittingly had spent 66 total weeks as World No. 1.
But now, Sinner will begin his 67th week at No. 1, good for the 12th-most weeks of any member of the ATP No. 1 Club. Stefan Edberg, who was in the crowd Sunday, is 11th with 72 weeks.
Sinner first became World No. 1 on 10 June 2024 following that year’s edition of Roland Garros. By remaining in that position for 65 weeks, he joined Roger Federer (237), Jimmy Connors (160), Lleyton Hewitt (75) and Novak Djokovic (53) as the only players whose first stint at World No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings lasted at least one year.
