Ugo Humbert will bid to snap Jannik Sinner’s 17-match winning streak at ATP Masters 1000 level on Tuesday, when the pair clashes in the second round at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.
A seven-time ATP Tour titlist, Humbert has shown plenty of appetite for bringing his best to some of tennis’ biggest stages in the past, not least when he upset Carlos Alcaraz en route to the final at the 2024 Rolex Paris Masters.
ATPTour.com spoke with Humbert to discover his takes on tennis, including diving into his favourite rivalries and the interesting character development he believes comes purely from his life as a tennis player.

What is your favourite ATP Tour tournament to play and why?
I have a lot of ATP tournaments that I really love. All the tournaments in France, I really like them because of the atmosphere and because I feel great. I feel all the support of the French crowd. If not in France, I like Halle, because I won and have good memories there, and it’s really green with the nature. I feel like I’m on holidays when I’m there. For me the best Masters 1000, just because of the place being beautiful, is Indian Wells.
Do you ever think about what the French crowd is like for your opponents who aren’t French?
When I played, for example, in Bercy, when you have 15,000 people with you, it’s difficult for your opponent. I played against [Nick] Kyrgios in Australia, so I know what it feels like.
What is your favourite tennis rivalry?
[Roger] Federer and [Rafael] Nadal, because I grew up watching them. So for me it’s the best.
Who is your own greatest rival?
I played a lot against Miomir Kecmanovic. I think it’s 4-3 to him. I also have big troubles against [Emil] Ruusuvuori, he leads 5-0 against me or something. The matches are always really tight. I had match points in two matches I think, but I lost every match against him.
Has there been a unique or standout moment in your career so far?
[The Rolex Paris Masters] in 2024. I was totally possessed the whole week [to reach the final]. It was the best week ever, even if I didn’t win the tournament. It was crazy.
What’s the biggest thing you’ve been chasing?
To win a Grand Slam. For me, Wimbledon would be amazing.
How exciting is the chase?
I want to give everything for it. You want to work hard for it. You think about it. You dream about it. At the end, it makes a big difference. Even if I don’t win it this year, I know I can do it, and I like this feeling.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your career?
For me, the injury [in 2025] was not easy to manage. I had a broken finger for two months and it was the first time I was injured. It was not easy.
Is there anything you got to do only because you are a tennis player?
I’m not the same guy off the court that I am when I’m on the court. So I think I have two different personalities. If I didn’t play tennis, I wouldn’t have that.
