Formula 2 announces changes to the calendar after the cancellation of the Bahrain and Jeddah rounds

FIA Formula 2 has announced significant changes to its 2026 calendar, confirming that Miami and Montreal will host Rounds 2 and 3 of the championship in May.

The move marks the first time F2 will race in North America, filling the gap left by the cancellation of the Sakhir and Jeddah rounds originally scheduled for April.

The reshuffle follows the confirmation that the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian events cannot take place as planned due to ongoing instability in the region. In response, F2, Formula 1, and the FIA worked together to secure two new venues that would allow the championship to resume racing without an extended early‑season hiatus.

The updated schedule places Miami as Round 2 on 1–3 May, followed by Montreal on 22–24 May, both running alongside Formula 1. After the North American double‑header, the championship returns to Europe with the traditional Monte‑Carlo round in early June.

Formula 1 President & CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the solution, emphasising the importance of maintaining momentum for the championship: “While it has not been possible to go ahead with the two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia this month, and we look forward to being back with our passionate fans there as soon as possible, it is great news for our fans, the drivers and the teams that Formula 2 will be racing in Miami and Montreal.

“Bruno and the whole F2 family have done a great job… to ensure we limit the gap in racing for the championship this season.” He added that returning to the United States with F2 alongside F1 will be “fantastic” for fans and competitors alike.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem highlighted the strategic significance of expanding F2’s global footprint: “The addition of these new rounds ensures the FIA Formula 2 Championship remains strong and balanced.

“Bringing the championship to North America via Miami and Montreal for the first time marks an important step in its continued global growth.”

He also reiterated the FIA’s hope for a swift return to stability in the Middle East, noting that thoughts remain with those affected by the ongoing situation.

F2 CEO Bruno Michel praised the collaborative effort required to secure two new events on short notice: “It was not an easy thing to do, but bringing F2 to North America for the first time is really fantastic. It’s something we have been wanting to do for a long time, and it enables us to ensure we’re back racing as quickly as possible.”

Michel stressed that teams and drivers have welcomed the news enthusiastically and expressed confidence that the new venues will deliver exciting racing.

The revised 2026 calendar now features 14 rounds, beginning in Melbourne in March and concluding with back‑to‑back events in Qatar and Abu Dhabi in late November and early December. The inclusion of Miami and Montreal not only preserves the championship’s structure but also introduces two high‑profile markets that align with Formula 1’s expanding North American presence.

With the season set to restart in early May, the reshaped calendar ensures continuity for teams and drivers while offering fans two brand‑new venues in a region where interest in single‑seater racing continues to grow.
