“For a 15-year-old, he is too mature”: RCB veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s classy verdict on RR teen Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after IPL 2026 carnage

In a game dominated by power-hitting and fearless intent, it was the sportsmanship of Bhuvneshwar Kumar that stood out just as much as the batting brilliance of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The experienced Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer had every reason to be disappointed after being taken apart by a 15-year-old, but instead, he chose to applaud the youngster’s extraordinary performance.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s graceful praise for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Sooryavanshi’s explosive 78 off just 26 balls in Guwahati powered Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a commanding win, and even the opposition couldn’t help but admire his approach. Speaking after the match, Bhuvneshwar acknowledged that the teenager’s innings was built on skill rather than luck, highlighting the quality of his shot-making.

“The way he is hitting shots – he is not slogging, he is playing proper cricket shots. For a 15-year-old, he is too mature. He deserves all the credit for the way he is batting,” Bhuvneshwar said at the post-match press conference.

It was a statement that reflected not only respect but also a deep understanding of the game. For a bowler of Bhuvneshwar’s experience, recognizing the difference between reckless hitting and calculated stroke play added weight to his praise.

Age becomes irrelevant in T20 cricket

While the cricketing world continues to marvel at Sooryavanshi’s age, Bhuvneshwar made it clear that once a player steps onto the field, performance is what truly matters. Despite being dismantled by someone nearly half his age, the veteran pacer maintained that T20 cricket levels the playing field.

“It’s a T20 game. Yes, he is young, but he is batting very well and very maturely. We never feel that somebody is trashing us. If a 15-year-old can bat like this, whether he is a 25-year-old or 15-year-old, it’s part of T20 cricket,” he explained.

His words captured the essence of modern-day T20 cricket, where fearless batting and quick decision-making often outweigh experience. For Bhuvneshwar, it wasn’t about who was facing him – it was about how well that player executed their skills.

Sooryavanshi’s innings was a perfect example of this mindset. Rather than being overawed by the occasion or the bowlers, he played with clarity and confidence, treating every delivery on merit. His ability to pick lengths early and execute shots cleanly made even seasoned bowlers look ordinary.

Sooryavanshi’s blitz powers RR to dominant win over RCB

The teenager’s innings wasn’t just impressive – it was match-defining. Chasing a challenging total of 202, RR needed a strong start, and Sooryavanshi delivered exactly that. He raced to a half-century in just 15 balls, marking his second such effort this season and continuing his dream run in IPL 2026.

His knock, filled with eight boundaries and seven towering sixes, set the tone early in the chase. Alongside Dhruv Jurel, who remained unbeaten on 81 off 43 balls, he stitched together a breathtaking 108-run partnership off just 37 deliveries. The duo propelled RR to 97/1 in the powerplay – their highest-ever powerplay score in IPL history.

Earlier in the match, RCB made a remarkable recovery after being reduced to 94/6, thanks to a fighting 63 off 40 balls from captain Rajat Patidar. Their total of 201/8 seemed competitive, but Sooryavanshi’s onslaught ensured that it wasn’t enough.

RR eventually chased down the target with ease, finishing the job with two overs to spare. The victory not only extended their unbeaten streak to four matches but also reinforced their position as one of the most dominant teams in the tournament so far.

As for Sooryavanshi, his performances have already made him one of the standout players of IPL 2026. With 200 runs in just four matches, he has surged to the top of the Orange Cap standings, further underlining his impact.
