Frances Tiafoe’s love for basketball has long been well documented and on Tuesday night in Houston, the American enjoyed another crossover moment with the NBA world. Fresh off the Houston Rockets’ win over the New York Knicks, Tiafoe caught up courtside with Kevin Durant, sharing an embrace that quickly lit up social media.
The moment, posted by the NBA on Instagram, showed Durant greeting Tiafoe warmly after the final buzzer, with the two exchanging a few words and a smile. Durant even added a personal touch, telling the American he would be in the stands to support him at the ATP event in Houston later this week.
Their meeting was hardly a surprise given Durant’s admiration for the No. 18 player in the PIF ATP Rankings. Durant previously watched Tiafoe compete in Washington in 2023 and praised the American’s presence both on and off the court.
“He’s just bringing, first of all, that energy from this area,” Durant said at the time. “He’s representing right, so we’re all proud of him.”
Tiafoe has long drawn inspiration from basketball’s biggest names. His admiration for LeBron James has been well documented, with the pair sharing a memorable meeting in 2022.
Tiafoe is competing at the ATP 250 clay-court event in Houston this week and will play Rinky Hijikata in his opener. The second seed is 15-7 on the season, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
