Alexander Blockx’s steady rise on the ATP Tour is gathering pace in 2026 and the 21-year-old Belgian is increasingly turning potential into results at the highest level.
On debut at last year’s Next Gen ATP Finals, Blockx surged to the title match to underline his status as one of the game’s most exciting young prospects. Now, after a breakthrough run to the third round at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, the 6’4” Belgian has climbed to a career-high No. 71 in the PIF ATP Rankings.
“I would say it feels more normal already because my ranking is a bit higher already,” Blockx said in a pre-tournament interview with ATP Media at the BMW Open by Bitpanda, reflecting on life among the elite. “It’s not like I’m ranked 200 or 300. I’ve played some big tournaments… I haven’t won that many matches at the highest level yet, but I feel like I’m getting the confidence now step by step and also feel like I have more confidence playing the top guys. I think that’s the most important.
“When I started Futures, I didn’t have that confidence yet. Then I started to have it. Then I started to play Challengers where I would lose early rounds. I didn’t have the confidence then I would go further and further. With the ATP’s, I had some more tournaments where I lost earlier. Now I’m starting to get more matches at this level as well, so it’s nice to see the evolution.”
A former junior standout who captured the boys’ singles title at the Australian Open in 2023, Blockx has long been viewed as one of Belgium’s leading hopes. Over the past two seasons, he has won four ATP Challenger titles while steadily gaining traction on the ATP Tour, where he earned his maiden win in Cincinnati in 2025.
Known for his clean yet heavy ball striking and composure under pressure, Blockx’s progress was on full display in Monte-Carlo last week. There, he earned his first tour-level wins on clay, defeating Top 50 opponents Denis Shapovalov and Flavio Cobolli en route to the third round.

Following that run, Blockx received a wild card into the main draw in Munich, where he is making his ATP 500 debut. He opens against home favourite Yannick Hanfmann — who won their only previous Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting — offering another opportunity for the Belgian to measure himself against established names.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Blockx said. “It was not planned at all. It was a spontaneous wild card because I had a good week in Monte-Carlo, where I reached my best result in an ATP tournament. I think in general I had a good year, so it’s not for nothing that I got the wild card.
“It’s really nice to see that the tournament is interested in me. It’s also my first ATP 500 tournament, which is really nice to play my first one immediately from the main draw. I’m just really happy to be here, to be honest.”
