Americans Ethan Quinn and Marcos Giron are set to battle in an intriguing all-American final at the ATP Challenger 175 event in Phoenix.

Having celebrated his 22nd birthday this week, the eighth seed Quinn downed Briton Billy Harris 7-6(6), 7-6(5) in Saturday’s Arizona Tennis Classic semi-finals to reach his fourth Challenger final and first since January 2025.

“I had to serve really well,” said Quinn, who won 81 per cent (43/53) of his first-serve points, according to Infosys ATP Stats. “Billy is a really tough opponent. He serves really well. He was playing unpredictable to me, which was keeping me off balance. Credit to him, he made me uncomfortable. At the end of it, it just came down to the breakers, playing aggressive tennis and moving forward.”

Seventh seed Giron advanced by rallying past top seed Corentin Moutet 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Giron has had to dig deep throughout this week, including on Thursday when he saved four match points to escape Jay Friend. Then in the quarter-finals, Giron ousted two-time champion Nuno Borges. The 32-year-old is seeking his third Challenger title and first since November 2019.

“Tennis is margins, and this week I’ve had a couple close ones,” said Giron. “It’s not over until it’s over. Moutet is tricky. He’s [nearly] Top 30. He can make you feel like you’re not the best player in the world. It was looking a little dire, but I’m really proud I was able to find a solution and get through in the end.”

Giron twice defeated Quinn on the ATP Tour last year, with wins in Delray Beach and Chengdu.

“The guy’s got some firepower and he’s got a bright future,” Giron said of Quinn. “I have to try and hold strong. I have to take it to him, be aggressive, but I know he’s going to come for it.”

Navone, Bellucci take contrasting paths to Cap Cana final
Argentine Mariano Navone needed a deciding-set tie-break to overcome Alexander Blockx at the Republica Dominicana Open – Copa Cap Cana, where the sixth seed will meet Italian Mattia Bellucci in the final.

Navone, aiming for his ninth Challenger crown and second at 175 level (Cagliari 2024), defeated Blockx 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) after two hours and 45 minutes of battle on a sun-baked court. Blockx was playing a three-set marathon for the third consecutive day, but still displayed great fight under the afternoon sun.

Up next for the 25-year-old Navone is Italian Mattia Bellucci, who beat Adam Walton 6-3, 7-5. Bellucci is a four-time Challenger champion.
