Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined after his frustrated reaction to a controversial dismissal during the IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants. The young batter also received one demerit point after being found guilty of a Level 1 offence under the league’s Code of Conduct.
The incident took place during a tense moment in KKR’s innings when Raghuvanshi was given out for obstructing the field, a decision that immediately triggered debate among fans, experts, and even members of the KKR camp. His visible anger after the dismissal eventually led to disciplinary action from the IPL governing body.
IPL confirms disciplinary action against Angkrish Raghuvanshi
In an official statement, the IPL confirmed that Raghuvanshi had breached Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures during a match. The statement mentioned that the batter admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction handed to him.
“Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fee and has also accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct,” the statement said.
It further clarified that the breach related to his aggressive actions immediately after the dismissal, which included striking the boundary cushion with his bat and throwing his helmet in frustration while heading back to the dugout. Since it was a Level 1 offence, the match referee’s decision remains final and binding.
How the controversial dismissal unfolded?
The moment happened in the fifth over of KKR’s innings when Raghuvanshi, batting on nine from seven deliveries, pushed a ball from Prince Yadav and attempted a quick single.
There was confusion with his batting partner at the non-striker’s end, forcing him to turn back midway. As he rushed to regain his crease, a sharp throw from Mohammed Shami came in from the field and struck him on the pads. Lucknow Super Giants appealed instantly, and the on-field umpires referred the matter to the TV umpire for a closer look.
After multiple replays, the third umpire ruled Raghuvanshi out for obstructing the field, concluding that he had changed his running line in a manner that interfered with the throw and denied the fielding side a fair chance of completing the run-out.
The dismissal quickly became one of the biggest talking points of the match, with many questioning whether the batter had intentionally altered his path or was simply reacting naturally in a split-second attempt to save himself.

KKR camp left furious
The decision did not sit well with the KKR dugout. Raghuvanshi was clearly unhappy and had a brief exchange with the on-field umpires before making his way off. His frustration was evident as he flung his helmet towards the dugout and struck the advertising cushion near the boundary rope.
The reaction spread beyond the player as well. KKR assistant coach Shane Watson was seen expressing his anger near the boundary line, while head coach Abhishek Nayar reportedly entered into a heated discussion with the fourth umpire.
The incident added more drama to an already intense contest and has once again brought the “obstructing the field” law into the spotlight in IPL 2026.
